hpgrp GALLERY TOKYOより、イギリス生まれのビジュアルアーティスト Shantell Martin(シャンテル・マーティン)個展の 開催をご案内いたします。
モノトーンのラインを使った壁画やイラストが世界的に認知されており、オーディエンスを前にライブペイントも多く行う アーティストです。イギリスのセントラル・セント・マーチンズを卒業後、2003年に来日、VJとしてのキャリアを積みつ つ、5年間東京に滞在していました。
現在はニューヨークを拠点に美術館やギャラリーでの展示の他、グローバル企業や、プーマやティファニー、ベスパなど有 名ブランドとのコラボレーション、2016年には世界最大のアートフェアART BASELにてラッパーのKendrick Lamarとパフォーマンス を行うなど、数多くの大規模なプロジェクトに取り組んでいます。また、2019年には毎年恒例のアートシリーズの一環とし て、ニューヨークシティバレエのロビーで全館ジャックのインスタレーションを行い、大きな話題となりました。

“The question I asked myself, WHO ARE YOU?, was always there.
I guess I was 13 or 14 when I first wrote it and put it on the door of my room.
I did the same when I moved to New York in 2010.
I didn't have the same career as when I was living in Japan, and I don't have many friends and fans, so I felt completely lost and I had to find my way again.
If you write "Who are you," the first three letters will be W-A-Y. So, in essence, life is about trying to find your own WAY.
The question "Who are you" eventually turned into "You are you".
It is one of the landing point.
When you arrive at that point, "You are you" changes to "Are you you?"
Because when you understand who you are, you have to start it over in a completely different way.
When you ask the first question, which can be paraphrased as
"Who are you?" or "How are you finding your way?”, in a new and unique way, we are asking ourselves.”
